According to the authorities, Candelario admitted to leaving her youngest boy unattended when she took a 10-day trip. According to the incident report, "Candelario's own admission" indicated that from June 8 to 16, "while on vacation in Puerto Rico and Detroit, Michigan," she left Jailyn "at home, completely alone and unattended."

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office received the boy's remains for an autopsy and additional investigation. It was found by the medical examiner that "the child had been left alone and unattended for approximately 10 days and subsequently died," according to the authorities.

In August 2022, nearby residents informed the station that Candelario dropped Jailyn off at her flat and asked if they could watch her for the weekend. They said that Candelario then vanished for a few weeks while either not returning calls or providing justifications for why she couldn't give birth to her child."

Look, I need milk," I remarked when I called her. I require cash. I can't afford to buy your baby's milk. One of the ladies recalled talks and communications she had with Candelario and asked, "What am I supposed to do?" After nearly six weeks, they said Candelario finally picked up Jailyn. According to the station, the women said they wished Candelario had left the infant with them rather than left her by herself.
