On October 13, at a district track meet in Haltom City, Tarrant County, 16-year-old sophomore Angel Hernandez of Chisholm Trail High School, fainted immediately after crossing the finish line, according to witnesses who spoke with KHOU. Concerned friends followed the adolescent to a water stream, where he fell once more. After being taken to a nearby hospital, he passed away an hour later.

He informed the newspaper, "He worked hard and had compassion for his teammates."However, he also managed his grades and behaved properly in class. Even after the boy finished one of his best races, friends and family are still unsure of what happened to lead him to fall. Hernandez's family was given a varsity letter jacket at his funeral on Friday, according to KHOU. At the high school football game later that evening, there was a moment of silence in his honour. According to his obituary, the teenager was also passionate about martial arts and participated in tournaments all over the nation.

Since his passing, his karate instructor Ashley Wood claimed he has been consoling his grieving teammates. She claimed that prior to his fall, he had no symptoms of illness. "His personality made you fall in love with him," she said to KHOU. His smile was contagious. It is clear from the silent moment that everyone adored him. Wood started a GoFundMe page to assist Hernandez's family with burial expenses.

It's really challenging. We'll never move past it. We shall always remember it. We will always love him, even if we shall miss him here," she remarked. Hernandez is survived by his younger brother, Mark Hernandez, as well as his parents, Antonio and Elsie Hernandez.
